Irvine Contemporary Gallery in DC: Douchebags of the week.
Posted on | February 10, 2009 |
So I sent two pieces of my work out to DC for the inauguration. The Irvine Contemporary Gallery was working with the Manifest Hope project and putting on a big art show related to Obama, the new administration, etc. Pretty cool, eh? So I send a kick ass new version of the US Map and my version of the Obama logo in license plates. Shortly after the inauguration, I was told both pieces were sold. Nice chunk of dough for me, right? Wrong.
Today I get the email that the buyer of the map (some “celeb” who is on one of the CSI shows… Miami? VEgas? Des Moines? who knows there’s a million of ‘em) backed out. Beg pardon? HOw is that possible? It’s been three weeks since the inauguration. How could anyone who’s been in this biz longer than twenty minutes not get a method of payment at the time of the sale? How fucking hard is that for anyone who is competent enough to feed themselves?
It’s ri-goddamn-diculous is what it is. I’ve gotten grumpy with those fuckers via email, but there may be more coming because I am pissed. I’m feeling very Ricky Roma at the moment:

Kinda interesting that my piece was selling for six grand. I’m not done with those assholes.
