What to do November 4th?
Posted on | October 30, 2008 |
So, what should I do on the 4th? I’ve considered having a party to celebrate the historic event, but what if it’s merely a threepeat of lies, deception, voter suppression and Diebold tactics? Or what if the country is really, truly, honestly, that friggin’ stupid or racist? If that happens, and I’ve got a house full of people… well, that could be a problem.
Part of me wants to hunker down, lock the doors, turn off the phone and watch the coverage from morning til night. Maybe film the entire day, then edit it down to a 90 second montage of me experiencing all the joy (and pain) of an election finally going the right way… hopefully. Screaming at the TV in joy when Obama wins North Carolina and Virginia. Screaming in Anger if he loses Florida even though I know it’s not a must win for him. Popping the champagne when he breaks 350 electoral votes. (I know it’s 270 to win, but they may very well change the rules on him. As Chris Rock said: “Obama seems to think having the most votes is gonna mean something.” Good point.)
Part of me isn’t so sure I should be alone on Tuesday. Things could go wrong and who knows what might happen? Well, I don’t know what to do. What will you be doing on November 4th. Besides voting, that is?
And isn’t it Thursday before the election? Where is Osama bin Laden, now that the Repubs really, really need him? He’s got about 24 hours to get his video on the news if he wants to try to sway this thiing for Johnny Mac. Tick Tock. Tick Tock.
