One project ends, another begins…

Well, the play wrapped last Sunday with a great crowd and what we all felt was our best performance. You can’t ask for too much more than that. Working on this play, Burn This, the last four months has been an incredible experience that I will never forget. It has completely changed me as an actor and I am looking forward to my next round of auditions to see how it translates into other roles I go after. Learning a dialect and transforming my appearance, my behavior, my entire energy into the wild and crazy, yet very emotional Pale was terribly challenging and there were many times I wanted to quit, but I am so very glad I did not. Everyone involved in the production made huge sacrifices in their personal lives to make it work and I am eternally grateful to them for helping make one of my dreams come true.
So what do you do after completing such a large and exhausting project? Start another a few days later. Yes, we closed on Sunday night and by Wednesday I was on a plane to High Point, North Carolina to put together the largest exhibition of my work ever assembled in one place for the world’s largest home furnishings show. I was working on this show as the play was running, getting pieces together to ship here and it added a lot of stress to my life, but I am very hapy with the way the booth turned out and I hope the show will be a good one.
High Point has long been the furniture center of America and I used to come here twice a year back in the day with my old company, Relish. It’s been a while though since I’ve been here- almost five years. I’m not sure my product is right for this market, but I wanted to take a shot and playing with the big boys. You never know until you try, right? The show opened yesterday and I had a great response and a pretty good batch of orders. My booth certainly doesn’t look like anything else at the market, which may not be the best thing for sales, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. After all, why do what everyone else is doing when you can do your own thing? I’d rather sink or swim on my own ideas than make a million selling some widget that everyone else is doing. Not always the best way to live, but it’s the only way I know how, the only way I can sleep at night. Hence my getting and then losing a tv show. If it ceases to be a challenge, I’ve got to move onto the next thing and see what happens even if it means walking away from the opportunity to be one of the main personalities on a television network for the next five or ten years (or so it was pitched to me). No thanks.

I’ve had a great run of press happen already here in High Point at the show which has been pretty exciting… a nearly full page story with several great photos ran yesterday in the High Point Enterprise (www.hpe.com and click on “previous issues” in the upper left and look for 10/1/07, then click “Tag Sale” about 2/3rds of the way down the page… then imagine that article on the front page of the Lifestyles section of the paper… pretty nice)
And I was just told I made the front page of the Greensboro paper this morning! Not bad, eh? I’ll look for that link shortly and post it here if I can find it. So, that’s all for now, but I will do my best to keep this updated during the show as it runs thru Sunday and there is a lot of down time… and I’ve already got a few classic “High Point” stories to share…

Aaron- It was great meeting you again today and introducing my husband to your work (ala Jasper Johns). Don’t worry about your booth -it looked great sans the crackled florals and paisley explosions. Congrats on the coverage!

Aaron,
Only found freestyle in last 6 months and am already running out of re-runs. I love your style, so honest and calm and authentic, the new guy is so so .. plastic we used to say in my day.
How were the reviews on the play? I tried to get some up on line but couldn’t find any.

That is really great that you received all that coverage for your artwork! I wish I could have made it because North Carolina isnt really that far from Atlanta, but hey studying comes first I guess. Im glad to see that there are still people out there that will do whatever it takes to make themselves feel happy and fullfilled without subjecting themselves to selling some widget. Good luck in all of your endeavors and I cannot wait until the day comes that I will own a piece of Aaron Foster’s artwork.

Hey, Aaron:
I hope that you have survived the California fires. You probably weren’t imagining them when you starred in “Burn This.” As you noted, you certainly transformed your appearance for that role, and I have been curious to see more pictures — for instance, you mentioned that you would be doing some fighting, and I would like to see you in that image-shattering activity, as well as interacting with the other two men in the production and showing you in your other costumes. Will you be posting a video clip soon? Will you be marketing a DVD of the entire play? Finally, you mentioned that you were going to engage in a diet and exercise regimen at the beginning of July, and I have wondered if you were successful with that, if you have any tips to share and if you will be posting before and after poses to demonstrate your results. Again, I hope the fire did not affect you and that you are well.
